Marshall County Government Contracting Forum

On Wednesday, September 1, 2010, the Marshall County Economic Development Council, along with the Chambers of Commerce in the county, held a forum for small businesses to attain information on government contracting. Over 60 small business personnel in Marshall County attended the forum at Gunter’s Landing. The event placed a special focus on HUBZone certification and other small business opportunities in Marshall County, beginning with the impact of BRAC on North Alabama and educational opportunities and practical contracting knowhow.

This event was conducted to aid in instruction of business practices with government and prime contractors.  The Small Business Development Center at Alabama A&M University partnered with the MCEDC and the chambers to attract the agencies and prime contractors and plan the event.  Missile Defense Agency, NASA, ALDOT, Northrop Grumman, and Boeing were a few of the leading contractors in attendance. The keynote speaker was John Cooper, owner of Sauty Group TPS, Inc. and retired CEO of Avocent Corporation.

Matt Arnold, President and CEO of MCEDC said, “This event greatly exceeded our expectations and provided the type of information our small businesses are asking for.  We look forward to more collaborative events like this with the chambers in the future.  Also, thanks to the folks at A&M for all the help they gave us putting on this event.”
